Anchor loss at 3:15 am
Our second night anchored in the same spot we were comfortable in knowing our anchor had held the night before with SE winds to 25 knots. The same was forecast a second night so it was a shock to lose the anchor. It broke off either at connection to chain or some weak link in the change very near the anchor as a lot of anchor less chain was hauled in once we were motoring. It was drizzling which was nice as it had been raining hard and rained hard again once docked again at Schoonmaker Marina were we had already been told we could not be. It was a stressful half hour as we motored through the maze of other boats using the super spot light to see boats and to find our familiar forbidden docking spot at Schoonmaker. Actually they were quite accommodating concerning our needs. We had asked about a slip there but they are full. We walked over to Clipper Yacht Harbor to get a propane tank filled and Tom decided to ask about a dock slip. They had one available for just 2 nights so we are on the dock now. I took my first shower since the morning of January 2 when we left the San Francisco side for Sausalito.
Tom lost a nice Rocna 25 anchor sadly. We are now using a Danforth type and have another spare as well. The Rocna is really the anchor to have so its a shame to have lost it.
The view near sunset from where we had been anchored one night. Calm before the storm.
Tom rethreading the cord through sail cover. It had flapped all night and had unthread itself. There was a helicopter flying all around the anchorage this morning hovering for long periods of time in a few spots. Then a salvage barge headed into the anchorage area. While motoring over to Clipper Yacht Harbor we noticed at least 2 swamped boats. Both smaller power boats 20 feet long or so.
Now we will be using a Danforth style anchor. This is still at Schoonmaker Marina. It rained non stop once we were docked at Clipper Yacht Harbor so I've taken no pictures.
